The Stallion Committee reserves the right
to alter or amend these rules and regulations from time to time as they see fit.
The Stallion Committee also reserves the right to assess individual cases on
their merit and in exceptional circumstances certain dispensations may be
granted.
N.B. Thoroughbred stallions with a minimum timeform rating of 110 on the Flat or
a National Hunt B.H.B. Official Handicap rating of 145 or above, may apply for
Grading via an alternative system. For details please contact the Office

Stallions recognised by mare owners as being of a high standard and free from hereditary diseases and defects.
Recognition with the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses.
Graded Stallions currently registered for the year of covering are eligible to accept
service vouchers valued at £500, £200, £100 and £50 awarded by this Society to brood mares.
Promotion of all graded Stallions via membership, National and International advertising and a trade stand which attends major shows and events around the country.
Accurate covering, foaling and fertility records maintained.
Eligible to compete for the Society's trophies.
Eligibility to compete as an entire under BSJA rules.

ELITE STALLIONS

Stallions will be granted the title ELITE if either they or their progeny fulfil the following criteria:
DRESSAGE - Placed at CDI*** competition at Intermediare I/II or Grand Prix
EVENTING - Competed a CCI**** or placed in the top 12 of a CCI***
SHOW JUMPING - Placed in Grand Prix at SI or CSIO competition and/or competed on a Nations Cup Team
RACING - Have a BHB Timeform of a minimum of 110 on the flat or a minimum or 145 National Hunt

Stallions will not be categorised into any particular discipline.
The inspectors reserve the right to have any stallion examined by the veterinary surgeon present at the grading. These examinations may require the Stallion to be endoscoped, blood tested and/or X-rayed.
The Stallion Committee reserves the right to alter or amend these rules and
regulations from time to time as they see fit. The Stallion committee also
reserves the right to assess individual cases on their merit and in exceptional
circumstances certain dispensations may be granted.
ALL STALLIONS MUST:
1) Be 153cms (15.0hh) or above
2) Be 3 years old or over
3) Stallions applying for Grading must have a minimum of 3 generations of proven
pedigree or may come forward for assessment for the Approved
Stallion Register.
4) Sign a declaration stating that
they agree to abide by the Levy Board codes of
practice for the prevention of venereal
diseases.
5) Submit
a sample of hair for a DNA test for which the owner is liable for the cost when
passing the initial Grading.
6) Be owned by a current member of
SHB(GB).

Stallions in this category (e.g. Irish
Draught, Cleveland Bays, etc.) can only apply to come forward to an SHB(GB)
Stallion Grading with the consent of their breed society.
ALL STALLIONS THAT WISH TO COME FORWARD FOR GRADING MUST:
Submit a 5 stage Veterinary Certificate carried out by a recognised specialist
equine veterinary surgeon issued no more than 3 months prior to closing date of
entries.
STAGE ONE
Stallions will be assessed on conformation, movement (in hand and loose), loose
jumping, and be shown under saddle at walk, trot and canter. They may be jumped
under saddle at the option of the owner.
STAGE TWO
To become Life Approved stallions must present a group of progeny consisting of
a minimum of 3 horses with SHB(GB) papers. If this progeny group reaches the
required standard then the stallion will become Life Approved.
FOREIGN GRADED STALLIONS

Stallions that are fully graded with any foreign
society that is a full member of the WBFSH AND that have a performance test
result of 100 or higher, or B.H.B. Official Handicap rating on the Flat of 80 or
more or equivalent, or a National Hunt B.H.B. Official Handicap rating of 100 or
higher, can apply to be accepted as SHB(GB) Graded Stallions. Proof of graded
status, together with proof of vetting at time of grading must be submitted with
a completed application form & the relevant fee. Please contact the office for
an application form.
These rules also include stallions graded with daughter societies in the UK.
N.B. Progeny foaled in the UK out of SHB(GB) Graded Mares and sired by fully
Graded Stallions standing abroad with these qualifications who have applied for
inclusion and submitted a sample to SHB(GB) for a DNA profile, will be
automatically eligible for SHB(GB) papers on receipt of full documentation of
proof of parentage without their sires having to appear at an SHB(GB) Stallion
Grading.

Stallions that have attained the highest level of
Approval/Grading within their Stud Book and have attained points or money at a
minimum of Intermediate Eventing, Grade B Showjumping or Medium Dressage, or a
B.H.B. Official Handicap rating on the Flat of 80 or more or equivalent, or a
National Hunt B.H.B. Official Handicap rating of 100 or higher, or have progeny
that have achieved the same level, can apply to be accepted as SHB(GB) Graded
Stallions. Proof of graded status, together with proof of vetting at time of
grading must be submitted with a completed application form & the relevant fee.

Stallions Approved/Graded at lower levels or that do not have the required level
of performance or that are approved with societies which are not full members of
the WBFSH will have to come forward for SHB(GB) Grading at the level appropriate
to their age.

The Grading is a three stage assessment but at any
stage of the assessment the judges can reject the horse if it does not reach the
required standard. To achieve Life Approved status the stallion's marks and the
marks of his progeny group will determine the horse's suitability as an SHB(GB)
stallion.
ALL STALLIONS THAT WISH TO COME FORWARD FOR GRADING MUST:

equine veterinary surgeon issued no more than 3 months prior to closing date of
entries.
STAGE ONE
The stallions will be assessed on conformation, movement in hand and loose and

STAGE TWO
The stallions will be required to return with a second five stage Veterinary
Certificate to undergo a further assessment. Horses that come forward initially
at three years old must return at five, those coming forward for the first time
at four, five and six must return the following year.
STAGE THREE
To become Life Approved stallions must present a group of progeny consisting of
a minimum of 3 horses with SHB(GB) papers. If this progeny group reaches the
required standard then the stallion will become Life Approved.

Before being allowed to come forward for Grading,
these stallions will be required to provide proof of:
A) Successful competition record at Intermediate Eventing, Grade B Showjumping
or
Medium level Dressage OR
B) A B.H.B. Official Handicap Rating on the Flat of 80 or higher, or a National
Hunt
B.H.B. Official Handicap Rating of 100 or higher OR
C) Have run 15 or more times on the racecourse OR
D) Have sired stock competing at the same level
N.B. Stallions who do not meet the above criteria may apply to come
forward for Grading and each case will be assessed on its merit.

APPROVED STALLIONS REGISTER

The Approved Stallions Register is designed for those horses that do not have 3
generations of proven pedigree and/or cannot meet the performance requirements
for a Graded Stallion.
Stock by stallions included on this Register will be eligible for registration
in the SHB(GB) Stud Book. SHB(GB) Service Vouchers cannot be used for payment of
Service Fees for mares visiting Approved Stallions.
Stallions must submit a 5 stage Veterinary Certificate carried out by a
recognised specialist veterinary surgeon issued no more than 3 months prior to
closing date of entries.
They will be required to come forward for inspection and will be assessed in
exactly the same way as the Graded Stallions, appropriate to their age.
Note: Approved Stallions with 3 generations of proven pedigree will be eligible
to upgrade to Graded Stallions if they or any of their progeny become Grade B
Show Jumpers, Intermediate Eventers or Medium Dressage horses. Approved
Stallions that do not have 3 generations of proven pedigree will be eligible to
upgrade to Graded Stallions if they or any of their progeny become Grade A Show
Jumpers, Advanced Eventers or Advanced Dressage horses.
NEW B.S.J.A ASSESSMENT

A preliminary inspection is available for 3, 4 & 5 year old horses whose
owners wish to compete under BSJA rules.
Such inspections will incorporate a conformation and movement assessment
together with loose jumping. There will not be a ridden assessment.
The entry fee is £150 + VAT (£176.25) and stallion owners must be members of SHB
(GB) which costs £40. A veterinary certificate will not be required at this
stage.
No covering certificates will be issued for these stallions and they will not be
promoted by the Society.
To be registered as a breeding stallion with SHB(GB), stallions will have to
pass a full grading and at that stage, a 5 stage veterinary certificate will be
required and payment of the full grading fee.
