Classic Moet tops a successful Badminton

    8 May 2018

Many congratulations to the SHB(GB) Head Studbook mare Classic Moet the deserving winner of the 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.

The British-bred mare ridden by British-based New Zealander Jonelle Price, owned by SHB(GB) supporter Trisha Rickards and bred by Elaine Hepworth is a daughter of the graded thoroughbred stallion Classic who stood at Beechwood Stud, out of the mare Gamston Bubbles by the former HIS stallion Bohemond. She was graded into the studbook last summer.

‘Molly’ and Jonelle took the lead after the cross-country when once again the pair proved to be the fastest in the field. A clear round showjumping – albeit not without many heart-stopping rattles – sealed their victory. As well as receiving the Mitsubishi Motors trophy Clasic Moet also won the SHB(GB) prize that is awarded to the owner of the highest placed horse sired by an SHB(GB) graded stallion.

Molly was just one of several successes for SHB(GB) during the four days of competition congratulations are also due to;

  • Harthill Stud the owner of the SHB(GB) graded stallion Ramiro B sire of the second placed Cooley SRS ridden by Oliver Townend
  • The SHB(GB) registered Mr Chunky beautifully ridden throughout, by Ireland’s Badminton first timer Padraig McCarthy to 8th place. Mr Chunky bred by Sue Trump and owned by Huw Lloyd, Christopher & Serita Perkins and Lucy McCarthy, is by the SHB(GB) Elite sire Jumbo out of the thoroughbred mare Avin Fun Bar by Sergeant Drummer

  • The SHB(GB) registered Coopers Law ridden by Emilie Chandler to 20th. Coopers Law bred by Nicola Dickson and owned by Nicola and Sally Williams is by the SHB(GB) Elite sire Mill Law out of the Main Studbook mare Miss Copper by Kildalton Gold.
  • Also completing the event; Bradeley Law 35th with Michael Owen, bred by owner Jane Jennings another by the SHB(GB) Elite sire Mill Law, SHB(GB) registered Triple Chance (Lanarth Triple-Joli Wasfi xx) 44th, 44th with first timer Ashley Edmond, bred by Hannah Matthews and owned by Bridget Heal; Brendonhill Doublet (Future Role-Welton Louis) 47th with first timer and owner Imogen Gloag was bred by Diana Scott.

SHB(GB) horses also had great success in the Burghley Young Event Horse qualifier held on the Wednesday. Carolyn Bates homebred SHB(GB) graded stallion A Moment in Time, champion of his grading last year, was the winner of the 5-year-old class.

Ridden by Padraig McCarthy, the chestnut stallion who also made an appearance in the SHB(GB) Badminton stallion parade, is a son of Wish Upon a Star out of Jonella by Jumbo. The 4-year-old class was won by Kayleigh Nicholls SHB(GB) registered Myspires Another Star ridden to top spot by Samantha Jimmison.
