Winners for SHB(GB) stallions

Three star winner for Kannan

Billy Beware by the SHB(GB) graded stallion Kannan KWPN (Voltaire/Nimmerdor), ridden by Pippa Funnell was the winner of the CCI3* at Tattersalls (Ireland) last weekend. The bay gelding bred by the Billy Stud is out of Dollar Day (Cavalier Royale/Cut Above XX) and is a half brother to the grand prix show jumper Billy Grand.

Billy Beware took a comfortable lead on the first day with a high scoring dressage test and even though the pair added time penalties to the score after the cross-country they still topped the leader board. A clear round in the show jumping on the final day ensured pole position.

Kannan, owned by The Stallion Company, and the sire of 2012 Olympic show jumping champion Nino Des Buissonets, is number two in the 2012 WBFSH end of year show jumping sire rankings.

SHB(GB) Elite stallion Jumbo had several representatives competing in several classes at the event including his seven-year-old and youngest son Philanderer II (Jumbo/Mangan XX) 9th, of 84 starters, in the CCI1* with Andrew Nicholson (NZL).

Zig Zag claims another Stairway.

Under Cornish based rider Sammie Jo Coffin, Roseway Stud’s SHB(GB) Life Approved Dutch-bred stallion Zig Zag (Concorde/Ramiro) was the winner of the first of this seasons British Showjumping International Stairway Challenge series, that was held at the Devon County Show.

“I couldn’t be more pleased,” said James Luker who has produced the 16.2hh nine-year-old from novice. “It was the biggest track of his career and our main aim is to prove his consistency at this level. He’s qualified for the Queen’s Cup and we’re waiting to hear from Hickstead to see if he’s been accepted for the international shows.” James who juggles his career as a farrier with running the stud at St Day in Cornwall acquired Zig Zag as a two-year-old from James and Alison McIlwraith of the Solland Stud.

Birdsong, one of the first offspring of Life Approved SHB(GB) stallion and British dressage team gold medal horse Uthopia (Metall/Inspekteur KWPN) proved on song in his first ridden test to win the Shearwater four-year-old class at the Addington Manor Premier League. He is now qualified for the Shearwater young horse championship that will be held at Hartpury Festival of Dressage (3/7 July). Birdsong and rider Sadie Smith not only headed the strong class of young dressage hopefuls but also relegated Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin to second place.

Birdsong III (2009) was bred by dressage rider Anni MacDonald-Hall and is out of her former grand prix mare Donner Rhapsody (Donnerhall-Pik Trumpf), a full sister to the SHB(GB) graded grand prix stallion Donnersong (deceased).
