THE BASIC IDENTITY RECORD

Providing their adult height exceeds 148 cm (14.2hh approx). ALL HORSES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ENTRY ONTO THE SOCIETY'S BASIC IDENTITY RECORD, as there are no breeding restrictions on this register. All you need to do is obtain an application form from the Society. The form provides for full details of the horse, a signed declaration from the owner and the completion of an identification chart by a qualified Veterinary Surgeon. On receipt of the completed application form and fee the horse will be issued with a DEFRA approved Identification Passport. The document will comprise of the Identification Chart showing the markings of the horse, breeding details (where known, see Rules for Registration), the owners name and address and various pages for vaccinations, other Societies registrations, medication control, etc.
This document will stay with the horse throughout its life, being returned to the Society for amendment, change of ownership, etc. In order to be shown at Affiliated Shows, a horse must be registered with the Society. Foals may be entered at Shows but must subsequently be registered. Foals may be registered un-named and will be recorded under their dams.

OVERSTAMPING

In support of the policy that all horses should only have one passport and the law which came into effect on the 1st January 1998 making it an offence for any horse born after that date to be in possession of more than one passport, the Society has obtained the necessary permissions to overstamp existing passports issued by other Societies and registration Authorities who are recognised by DEFRA, subject to them including a markings chart completed by a Veterinary Surgeon (both diagrams and written markings). On receipt of your passport , completed form and fee, the horse will be entered on the Basic Identity Record and the ID number will be stamped in the existing passport.
